Money Matters: December 2015

I’ve seen other bloggers, like Berls at Fantasy is More Fun and Felicia at The Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog, with book budget posts. It made me curious how much I’m spending on books each year. I have a rough idea, because I have an entertainment budget, but I’d like to get more detailed. I’m not going to try to stick to a set goal the way Berls and Felicia do, but it might end up making me think twice about buying a book if I know I have to be accountable for it here. Or maybe not!

I’ll be posting an update of the previous month’s spending on the second Saturday of each month.

Book Acquisitions – December 2015

Purchased Audiobooks
Audible costs me $14.95 for 1 credit per month. I can roll over up to 6 credits, so I might not always use my credit each month. I currently have 0 credits. I used up all my credits so I could cancel my membership. I haven’t been listening to audiobooks much lately so there’s really no reason to keep buying them. When I get caught up, I’ll think about joining again.

In the After by Demitria Lunetta Hotel Ruby by Suzanne Young The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness Defy by Sara B. Larson The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall The House by Christina Lauren

After I bought all of these, I realized I should have bought Soundless by Richelle Mead. I checked the hardcover out of the library but I couldn’t get into it. I always have this problem with Mead’s books so I should have known to listen to the audiobook. I couldn’t get into her Vampire Academy series at all until I listened to the audio. Now I’m going to have to see if the library has the audiobook available and try it that way.

Spending Totals

Total spent this month: $14.95
Number of books acquired this month: 17
Total spent this year: $275.71 + $6.44 gift card
Number of books acquired this year: 211

  1. this is a great idea to do. I would hate to see what I spend on books. Library and arcs help me though. i also do kindle unlimited and audible. that helps too. I dont think that 275.71 is bad to spend a year on books. not at all.

    • No, that’s not bad at all, considering I got 211 books! Of course $63 of it was for my library card and I didn’t get to keep those books I checked out from the library. I think I’m going to be able to really cut down on the expense now that I’m not using Audible anymore.
