Picks of the Month: October 2014

Picks of the Month is my monthly feature. Modeled after what I’m loving lately at Annie’s Eats (one of my favorite food blogs), I’ll be sharing the products, websites, pop culture, apps, etc that made my life easier and/or more fun the previous month. And, yes, as this is a book blog, I will probably find a way to sneak some mention of my favorite reads from the month too!

I had to skip this feature last month because I had other posts planned, but I’m back for October.

My alarm clock stopped working this month, so I had to buy a new one. The old one was just a cheap clock that lasted for years. I rarely need an alarm to get up on time, so I didn’t want anything expensive or elaborate to replace it. I found this cute clock at Target for $8. The top of mine is a little different (the buttons are not silver), but it’s very similar. Yes, the main reason I picked this clock over the others was because of the multicolor display. I love it! It looks so happy in the dark.

China Glaze Harvest Moon

China Glaze is my favorite nail polish company and Harvest Moon is one of my favorite colors of all my polishes. It’s from the Hunger Games Capitol Colors line; Harvest Moon represents District 9. It came out when the first HG movie did, so it’s a couple of years old now but I think it’s the perfect color to wear in the fall. That picture of it in the bottle looks a little darker than the polish does on me. There’s a good swatch on Nails and Noms that I think shows its true color.

Favorite books I read in September and October: I read a lot of great books these past two months, so it was hard to pick just a few. I went with Welcome to the Dark House by Laurie Faria Stolarz (5 stars), Playing with Matches by Suri Rosen (4 stars), The Black Mage: First Year by Rachel E Carter (4 stars), and All Lined Up by Cora Carmack (4 stars).
