My To-Be Read List: October 2014

My To-Be Read List

My To-Be Read List is a meme hosted by Because Reading is Better Than Real Life. On the first Saturday of every month, I’ll be posting a poll with three books from my TBR. You get to vote on one for me to read and on the last Saturday of the month, I’ll post my review.

Here are my choices for October:

Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis

Lynn knows every threat to her pond: drought, a snowless winter, coyotes, and, most importantly, people looking for a drink. She makes sure anyone who comes near the pond leaves thirsty, or doesn’t leave at all.

Confident in her own abilities, Lynn has no use for the world beyond the nearby fields and forest. Having a life means dedicating it to survival, and the constant work of gathering wood and water. Having a pond requires the fortitude to protect it, something Mother taught her well during their quiet hours on the rooftop, rifles in hand.

But wisps of smoke on the horizon mean one thing: strangers. The mysterious footprints by the pond, nighttime threats, and gunshots make it all too clear Lynn has exactly what they want, and they won’t stop until they get it….

Something Real by Heather Demetrios

Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.

SPOILER WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the first two Monument 14 books!
Savage Drift by Emmy Laybourned

The survivors of the Monument 14 have finally made it to the safety of a Canadian refugee camp. Dean and Alex are cautiously starting to hope that a happy ending might be possible.

But for Josie, separated from the group and trapped in a brutal prison camp for exposed Type Os, things have gone from bad to worse. Traumatized by her experiences, she has given up all hope of rescue or safety.

Meanwhile, scared by the government’s unusual interest in her pregnancy, Astrid (with her two protectors, Dean and Jake in tow) joins Niko on his desperate quest to be reunited with his lost love Josie.

The poll will be open until October 10. Please vote!

  4. I voted for Savage Drift, if you made it to book 3 you must be enjoying the series so far. And I’ve seen the first book around the blogosphere a times.

  5. I think they all sound pretty good, but I ended up voting for Not a Drop to Drink. I went with the book that sounded most creepy – since it’s October and all. 🙂 I hope you enjoy whichever book is chosen!

  7. I voted for Not a Drop to drink. I don’t know anything about the middle one and I started and didn’t like Monument 14, so that left me with the first one, that I’ve at least heard of. 🙂 I hope you enjoy whatever gets chosen!

    • I loved Monument 14 so I’ve been looking forward to reading this third book in the series, but I never seem to get around to it. Looks like this won’t be its month either.
