Weekly Rewind: August 24-30

The Weekly Rewind is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

I’ve been very busy lately and will continue to be busy into next month. My husband and I have had the same tenants in our rental house ever since we bought it almost four years ago, but they’re moving out. We’re going to be repainting the walls and replacing some of the flooring to get ready for new tenants. The old flooring is original to the house, which was built in the 1980s, and it needs updating. The carpet had been replaced before we bought the house, but it looked to be cheaper carpet so we’ll see if it needs replacing now too. We’ll be doing the work ourselves to keep costs down and for the experience. If all goes well, we’ll be confident enough to do our own floors one day!

@ rather be reading ya
Like I said last week, I’m going heavy on the reviews right now as a lot of the ARCs I have are being published. I have two or three every week during September.

  1. September is turning out to be a crazy review month for me too. I feel like everything is being released that month!
I have been dying to read Madeleine Roux’s books but haven’t gotten around to them yet. Maybe I can read them during October a nice creepy halloween type read 🙂

Good luck with fixing the apartment. I had to do that when my tenants downstairs from us moved but this last time the girl who moved in wanted to do everything herself so we let her and she did a great job. I do hope it all goes smoothly for you!

Have a great week and enjoy all your new reads!!

    • That’s what I bought the Roux books for. I read Asylum last year and it wasn’t great, but I was kind of interested to see what happens. I’m hoping her character development has improved!

How lucky that the tenant did the work for you, and that it turned out so well!

  2. I’ve read that the Madeline Roux books were not so good ?… The Perfect guide to imperfect boys is a great title ! I would say “enjoy the redecorating”, but I hope it won’t be too much of hard work. Well, enjoy your week 😉

    • Funny you should say that: I read Roux’s first book in this series and wasn’t too impressed. I probably shouldn’t have bought these but I got caught up in “Halloween is coming soon!” fever and bought them. Oh well, if I don’t like them they won’t be the first I’ve bought and not liked.

  4. We’ve had tenants move out in the rental house we own twice. One move all we had to do was touch up the walls. They left the house so clean it was crazy. The second time… I still have nightmares! There was literally food stuck to the wall in every room. It was awful. Hopefully yours will go smoothly! Enjoy your new books! The cover for Sanctum is terrifying!

  5. Good luck with the repairs, that will be a lot of work I’m sure but you’ll probably save a ton. I saw Welcome to NightVale on your Picks of the Month, and I’m going to have to try that podcast. I saw it a couple weeks ago on Angela’s Anxious blog too… it sounds very cool.

  6. Hope the renovations go well and that you have some good new tenants. It looks like you’ve got some really cool books in this week – The (Almost) Perfect Guide to Imperfect Boys sounds like it will be a really fun read. I hope you enjoy all your new books and have a good week.

    • Thanks! I’m more nervous about who our new tenants will be than anything. I’ve heard nightmare stories, and eviction isn’t easy if there are problems.

I’m really looking forward to The Almost Perfect Guide. I’m loving the books from that line (Aladdin Mix)

  8. You have a busy month ahead of you. Painting and replacing the floors is hard work but I hope you get some relax time. You have a lot of great new books. I received an ARC of Sanctum but I have to read the first book too. It looks scary (which I’m not a fan of) but I’m willing to try something new. I hope you have a great week!!
