The Fine Art of Pretending by Rachel HarrisThe Fine Art of Pretending by Rachel Harris
Publication date: September 30, 2014

According to the guys at Fairfield Academy, there are two types of girls: the kind you hook up with, and the kind you’re friends with. Seventeen-year-old Alyssa Reed is the second type. And she hates it. With just one year left to change her rank, she devises a plan to become the first type by homecoming, and she sets her sights on the perfect date—Justin Carter, Fairfield Academy’s biggest hottie and most notorious player.

With 57 days until the dance, Aly launches Operation Sex Appeal and sheds her tomboy image. The only thing left is for Justin actually to notice her. Enter best friend Brandon Taylor, the school’s second biggest hottie, and now Aly’s pretend boyfriend. With his help, elevating from “funny friend” to “tempting vixen” is only a matter of time.

But when everything goes according to plan, the inevitable “break up” leaves their friendship in shambles, and Aly and Brandon with feelings they can’t explain. And the fake couple discovers pretending can sometimes cost you the one thing you never expected to want.

The only Rachel Harris books I’ve read so far have been her My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century books. I’ll probably go back and pickup her new adult books in the Love and Games series eventually, but it’s so hard to catch up on authors’ backlists when there are new books coming out all the time. The Fine Art of Pretending sounds fairly predictable and it’s a story we’ve all read or seen a thousand times, but I’m looking forward to seeing what Harris does with it to make it her own.

  1. I haven’t read any of hers, but this’ll probably be the first, sounds really fun and cute! Been seeing it everywhere too, so that’s a plus! 🙂

    • I didn’t even realized I hadn’t read the final Super Sweet Sixteenth Century book until I saw this was set to publish today. I’m going to have to fix that when I finish some of the books I’m already reading.

  5. I actually really like these types of stories. They are probably the most predictable things ever, but it’s fun to see how each different author puts a spin on it.
