Weekly Rewind: May 25-31

The Weekly Rewind is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

My cats Liesl and Brigitta celebrated their fourteenth birthday yesterday! We don’t know when their actual birthday is, but it’s around this time so we picked May 31 when we adopted them as kittens. They took several birthday naps and Liesl enjoyed sitting in the living room without the ceiling fan on. We don’t have our AC on yet even though it’s been high 80s and humid all week. All our neighbors turned theirs on days ago, but the fans keep things cool enough for us. Unfortunately, Liesl is afraid of them and doesn’t like to sit or even walk through a room with a ceiling fan that’s on.

My basil has really grown this week.

The chipmunks are still digging in these herbs, but not as often as they were. Maybe they are finally moving on.

I have several tomatoes on each plant. They’re still small and green, but definitely larger and more numerous that last week. The weather pattern this week (hot with a shower every couple of days around 5pm) has been good for them.

I pick a few strawberries every day. The ones I planted myself are producing more and larger berries than the one I bought already planted.

I’ve cut all my lettuce from the first planting and it’s already starting to grow back at one end. The second will be ready to pick soon.

The parts of the spinach that I left last week have grown a lot this week.

The summer squash is huge now.

The blueberries have recovered from their bout with the cold. The red on the leaves is gone, although there are some new holes in the leaves.

The green beans are leaning over because I took the picture shortly after a hard rain. They seem to be the only plants that fell over.

The peas don’t seem to be climbing their poles the way I hoped they would. They did a lot better last summer when I just used sticks from the yard instead of these fancy plastic poles (that are really for tomatoes).

The sweet peppers grew a lot this week, but I still feel like they’re lagging behind.

Look at the carrots!

I spotted something growing in the sunflower pot that I had given up on. I’m not sure if it’s a flower or a weed, but I’m hoping that I’ll have one sunflower at least.

After the sunflowers got dug up, I moved the morning glory pot into their place next to the blueberries. They’ve done very well there this week.

My site was running slow yesterday. I didn’t do anything to make that happen, but in trying to fix it, I made a few changes on the backend of my site last night. I’m hoping I didn’t break anything, but if you leave a comment and it doesn’t show up right away, that’s probably why. If that’s the case, I’ll try to fix it ASAP! If you notice anything unusual like popups or virus warnings, please let me know so that I can investigate. Also, for return visitors, does it seems slower than normal to you? To me it seems to be running better today, so maybe it was an issue with my host and not the site itself. I’m sure there are things I can do to improve its speed, and I will be looking into them.

I’m very behind on answering comments and returning visits, but I’m hoping to catch up with that this week. It probably won’t be today because I have some yardwork to do, but I’m definitely going to schedule some time to do it in the next few days. I love getting comments and I know that some people don’t answer them or visit back, but to me it’s a two-way street. I always like to visit people back (and discover some great new blogs!) and I haven’t been doing that as much lately.

  4. I love your garden pictures! I think I may be a bit farther south than you because all our strawberries and lettuce are basically torched at this point. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your sunflowers! Looks like some great books this week! Have a great week!
