It’s senior year at St. Joan’s Academy, and school is a pressure cooker. College applications, the battle for valedictorian, deciphering boys’ texts: Through it all, Colleen Rowley and her friends are expected to keep it together. Until they can’t.

First it’s the school’s queen bee, Clara Rutherford, who suddenly falls into uncontrollable tics in the middle of class. Her mystery illness quickly spreads to her closest clique of friends, then more students and symptoms follow: seizures, hair loss, violent coughing fits. St. Joan’s buzzes with rumor; rumor blossoms into full-blown panic.

Soon the media descends on Danvers, Massachusetts, as everyone scrambles to find something, or someone, to blame. Pollution? Stress? Or are the girls faking? Only Colleen—who’s been reading The Crucible for extra credit—comes to realize what nobody else has: Danvers was once Salem Village, where another group of girls suffered from a similarly bizarre epidemic three centuries ago . . .

Conversion has a horrible cover. Looking at it, it occurs to me that I don’t really like birds. It’s a good thing I will be reading the ebook so I don’t have to look at the cover every time I pick up the book. I love reading about the Salem Witch Trials, so I’ll pick up any book that has a connection to it.

  1. Great pick, I’m really looking forward to Conversion too and completely agree about the cover! I have a bit of a bird phobia so really don’t like it, hopefully what’s inside the book will be fantastic 🙂

  4. This actually reminds me of an event in New York (I think that’s where it was) a year or two ago; a bunch of girls got sick and were having Tourette’s type symptoms, but no one could ever figure out what it was. It’d be interesting to see how the Salam history will be wound up into it!

  5. Oh this sounds amazing! I do agree with you, the cover is a bit strange, not sure I like it either. Nice pick though, hopefully the book itself is a million times better than the cover 🙂

  6. This is on my TBR list too! It sounds so cool. I don’t hate the cover, but I wonder what it has to do with the book…
