Picks of the Month: April 2014

Picks of the Month is my monthly feature. Modeled after what I’m loving lately at Annie’s Eats (one of my favorite food blogs), I’ll be sharing the products, websites, pop culture, apps, etc that made my life easier and/or more fun the that month. And, yes, as this is a book blog, I will probably find a way to sneak some mention of my favorite reads from the month too!

The Walking Dead game
I started playing The Walking Dead video game on my iPad this month. I’ve heard a lot about it on various Walking Dead podcasts (including interviews with the actress who voices one of the main characters), but I wasn’t sure it was something I would enjoy. Lucky for me, the first episode was free on iTunes. It got me hooked so I bought the rest of season one and I’m taking my time working my way through. It’s a lot of fun! I used to love games like Age of Empires, but I haven’t played any games other than on Facebook in a long time.

Salsa Rose

I discovered Salsa Rose back in January, around Super Bowl time. They were passing out free samples in the grocery store and since people were monopolizing the Honeybaked Ham guy, I got a little plastic cup of Salsa Rose and a tortilla chip. It was so good! It’s sweet, but spicy. I bought a small jar and we finished it in a few weeks — and we NEVER finish salsa. The next time, I bought the large jar. Salsa Rose is available mainly in the Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, but if you can find it, I highly recommend it. I’m pretty sure they’ve expanded since the last time I looked at their store locations map, so maybe it’s coming soon to a store near you.

Isotonic Mattress Topper

My back has been hurting lately, so we bought this Isotonic TheraGel Memory Foam Mattress Topper. It’s so soft and it’s helping a lot.

Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden The Summer I Wasn't Me by Jessica Verdi

My favorite books I read in April were Annie on My Mind and The Summer I Wasn’t Me by Jessica Verdi.
