Top Ten Tuesday: Popular Authors

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

My giveaway of Blindness by Ginger Scott ends soon.

Top Ten Popular Authors I’ve Never Read

01. Marissa Meyer – Cinder is on my TBR because it’s so popular, but to be honest, it really doesn’t appeal to me. I do plan to give it a try sometime though.

02. Gayle Forman – Her books seem sad and I don’t like sad books, but like with Marissa Meyer’s, I’m going to give one a shot. Eventually.

03. Marie Lu – Legend seems right up my alley, so I’m not sure why I haven’t gotten to it yet.

04. Stephanie Perkins – I hadn’t even heard of Anna and the French Kiss until I started blogging, but I soon found it everywhere. I added it to my TBR almost immediately, but haven’t actually picked it up yet.

05. Cassandra Clare, author of The Mortal Instruments – I have no interest in reading the work of a plagiarist and cyberbully. When I started blogging, I was shocked to see how much the book blogging community supports her, especially after reading so many anti-plagiarism posts on so many different blogs.

06. Julie Kagawa – I’m not really into faeries. Actually, I actively dislike them. But again, her books come highly recommended by just about everyone, so…

07. Veronica Rossi – I don’t even really know what her books are about. I just know one was released recently and the blogging world blew up with anticipation.

08. Jennifer L. Armentrout – She must have written a lot of books because it seems like I can’t visit a blog without seeing a post about one of them, and it always seems to be a different book! I really should look into her books one day. Like with Rossi, I don’t even know what they’re about.

09. Patrick Ness – He’s another author I hadn’t heard of before I started blogging. I’ve looked at a few of his books and they seem like something I might like.

10. Laini Taylor – The cover has put me off The Daughter of Smoke & Bone for years, but I recently added the audiobook to my clipless Sansa Clip and I will listen to it soon.

  1. Meyer and Kagawa are on my list as well. Gayle Forman’s If I Stay is sad, yes, but also so nice that you won’t mind. I hadn’t heard of Anna as well before blogging, but I certainly did not regret reading it as soon as I saw it! JLA is awesome because she can make someone who dislikes fantasy and paranormal (me) read her books. I fully recommend these authors and I hope you give them a try soon. 🙂

  2. Oddly, I haven’t really gotten around to most of these authors, either. Julie Kagawa is pretty much the only one I read–the end of her fourth book in the Iron Fey series blew me out of the water. Can’t say I’ve read a lot of books with fairies, but I do really enjoy folk tales and mythology–and the tragic bent of good fairy stories. Since you don’t like sad books, I can see where some of my favorite books with fairies might not be for you…

  3. Great list! Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles series and Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series are amazing books and some of my favorites, so I definitely recommend them! I’ve never read any Armentrout books either, I need to work on that too.

  4. Ooh, I love JLA! Otherwise, I have only read Cassandra Clare on your list. I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who hasn’t read all these really popular authors! LOL! Here is my list: http://booklovingmommy.blogspot.com/2014/03/top-ten-tuesday-ten-popular-authors-ive.html

  5. I actually really loved Anna and the French Kiss. It is not at all like I thought it would be. I haven’t read Veronica Rossi yet either!

  6. Jessica says:

There are several authors I haven’t read here, and one I haven’t even heard of.

I don’t care for Julie Kagawa, since I also don’t really like fairies. I liked, but did not love, Anna and the French Kiss. I recently read and really liked Cinder, which I had previously avoided, because I thought it seemed too sci-fi for me (though I did like the less sci-fi Scarlet better). The one that really surprises me, is that you don’t like the cover for Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I love that cover and have worried that they would eventually change it to one of the terrible, generic YA covers that I typically dislike. Different tastes 🙂

    • Cinder seems to sci-fi for me, too, but since you felt the same way maybe I will like it more than I think I will.

The Daughter of Smoke and Bone cover is different than the usual, but I don’t like that type of mask at all, not even when they’re sitting on store shelves.

  7. I’m with you as well – I have yet to read Marissa Meyer’s books, even though they’ve been recommended to me hundreds of times. But Gayle Forman, Marie Lu, Stephanie Perkins, Cassandra Clare, and Laini Taylor are such awesome authors! I hope you enjoy their books. 🙂

  8. Great list. I’ve read quite a few:

Forman – I absolutely loved If I Stay & Where She Went, they made me cry. I wasn’t a fan of Just One Day though, but I seem to be the only one.
Lu – I really loved Legend and the other two books were great as well.
Perkins – Read Anna & the French Kiss and was surprised by how much I ended up loving it.
Clare – Read one book in the MI series but wasn’t that amazed.
Rossi – I just read her series and it blew my mind! It was seriously amazing and I definitely recommend 😉
Armentrout – Her Lux series is a lot of fun!
Ness – Chaos Walking trilogy was really great.

The other three are all authors I am planning to get to soon 🙂

  9. Cinder was an awesome read you definitely should try it!

Oh I have completely missed the whole cyberbully thing… love the TMI series though so I guess I am thankful that I didn’t know…

Really liked Daughter of Smoke and Bone as well ^^
