Picks of the Month: March 2014

picksofthemonth

Picks of the Month is my monthly feature. Modeled after what I’m loving lately at Annie’s Eats (one of my favorite food blogs), I’ll be sharing the products, websites, pop culture, apps, etc that made my life easier and/or more fun the previous month. And, yes, as this is a book blog, I will probably find a way to sneak some mention of my favorite reads from the month too!

When Calls the Heart

When Calls the Heart, a show on the Hallmark Channel, just finished up its first season. There’s no word on a second season yet, but I’m hoping for good news soon. I’ve been watching the show since it started in January, but somewhere along the way, I really started to fall in love with it. It’s only recently that I realized just how much — and how much I ship Jack and Elizabeth! It’s based on a book series that I have not read. I’m a little afraid to read the books because they’re probably different from the show. I also don’t want to get spoiled for things that might happen on the show, so I’ll probably just hold off on reading it for now.

Riviera Romance I love ModCloth, but they can be pricey so I don’t buy there a lot. I recently purchased this dress. I just love the stripes going in different directions. It’s still a little cool to wear it right now, but I can throw a white cardigan over it until the weather warms up.

lemon lavender candle
I love scented candles, but I don’t like having the flame burning with my cats running around everywhere. Candle warmer lamps are perfect for me! I got the hurricane lantern style warmer for Christmas a few years ago. The only candle I had for it, up until recently, was apple cinnamon, which is more of a fall and Christmas scent, so I was only burning it during those times of the year. I had a good coupon for Yankee Candle, so I decided to get some more spring-like candles and I ended up with lemon lavender. It’s a light, citrus scent that I can smell throughout the house.

Talenti Gelato
I discovered Talenti gelato in my grocery store last month. The black raspberry chocolate chip was the first flavor I tried. It reminded me of a blackberry chocolate chip ice cream I made (and LOVED) last summer — but better! A few weeks later, it went on sale and I seriously stocked up on various flavors. I think I have five pints left, so I need another sale to come along soon. Sea salt caramel is equally good. I’m currently eating banana chocolate swirl. It’s good, but I probably won’t buy it again. I prefer the other flavors I’ve tried.

An Unstill Life by Kate Larkindale Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott

My favorite books I read in March were An Unstill Life by Kate Larkindale (review coming on Friday!) and Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott (review coming…soon after I write it).

  1. I am a huge fan of candles. I love going in to shops and smelling them. Lemon Lavender sounds divine 🙂

That dress is gorgeous! 🙂 I am always envious of people who can carry off stripes. They never suit me :’)

    • I think I smelled every candle they had in Yankee Candle. There were a few I was attracted to because of the name or the concept, but they were too sweet-smelling so I ended up with this one. I like it! It’s not a very Eastery dress, but I’ll probably wear it then anyway. I don’t get to wear dresses at work, so I don’t have many chances to wear them.
