Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Websites

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly event hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Bookish Websites/Organizations/Apps

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday allows us to pick from previous topics that we want to do again or may have missed. This topic was originally done on June 28, 2011, just over two years before I started blogging.

01. Goodreads – How else would I keep track of all the books I own, want to own, once owned, or just want to know about?

02. NetGalley – I use NetGalley not just to request ARCs, but also to find out about upcoming books. I only request books I’m sure I want to read, but I look at a lot more books here than I request. The ones I don’t know if I’ll want to read go on a special shelf on Goodreads to be looked at later.

03. Audible – I love audiobooks, and Audible is always the first place I look. I’d rather buy from Audible than iTunes.

04. Amazon – I hardly ever buy paper books anymore, so I don’t frequent brick and mortar bookstores much (less than once a year). Even before I made the switch to ebooks, I was buying most of my books on Amazon. While there’s something to be said about buying local — and even chain stores employ local residents — I have to look out for my own financial situation first. It just doesn’t make sense to me to pay full price when I can get a discount online.

05. Bookbub and Book Gorilla – I get daily emails from them that tells me about a free (or cheap) book. I don’t download most of them, but it only takes a minute to look and decide whether it might be something I want to read.

06. Fantastic Fiction – Fantastic Fiction has information on over 350,000 books. I used to use this a lot more before Goodreads was born. It’s a good site to keep track of the order of books in a series. Of course, now I can just check Goodreads, but I like being able to see all of an author’s works on one page, the way it is on FF, and it’s harder to do on Goodreads that with the more prolific authors.

07. Audiobook SYNC – SYNC offers free YA audiobooks (and some good ones, too!) each summer. They pair a classic with a more current book, but you have to check back each week. Downloads are only available for one week, although you can listen to them at any time once you’ve downloaded them. A few of this summer’s selections that are sure to be popular are Code Name Verity, All Our Yesterdays, and Cruel Beauty.

08. Paperback Swap – I rarely use the site these days, now that I’m moving more and more to ebooks, but back in the day, I used PBS a lot to get used copies of books I wanted to read.

09. eReaderIQ – This site publishes a list of freebies and good deals for the Kindle. I primarily use the price drop watch list feature to be notified when books I’m interested in have a price drop.

10. Edelweiss – I don’t love the layout or the slowness of Edelweiss, but there’s a lot more information there there than on Netgalley, if you take the time to look at it.
