This week’s topic:

Non-bookish hobbies

runningI don’t know if this counts as a hobby, exactly, but I love to run. I started running in high school. My sister was on the track team and my mom didn’t want her training alone, so she sent me with her. I was a member of a runners group online for a while, but everyone seemed so focused on entering races and training for them. I just want to run.

baseballOther than running and riding my bike, I’m not really into participating in many sports, but I love watching baseball. My favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals. Many of my family members have been Cardinals fans for years, but I only got into baseball as an adult.

cookingI don’t do as much cooking as I used to, but I love to cook and bake. I bake most of the bread we eat for sandwiches and toast (it’s SO much better than store-bought) and I like cupcakes too. I don’t make cupcakes very often because we don’t eat them much.

I check in on a few recipe blogs, but I don’t follow any regularly because I can spend way too much time reading them.

Facebook gamesYes, I still play Farmville. I just can’t give it up. I spend way too much time playing it, but I have fun and it’s something to do while I’m watching TV. I also still play Pioneer Trail, but not as often. I got really behind and it’s just too hard to catch up with all the missions when you have to do so many requests from your neighbors.

I don’t use Facebook other than for the games. I don’t even know any of my Facebook “friends.” They’re just strangers who play the games with me.

(Sorry if the formatting on this post is kind of weird. I couldn’t get it to do what I wanted it to do. It looks okay to me now, but I haven’t checked other screen resolutions.)

  1. Our mom used to make us run together, but it drove me crazy since my sisters are faster than I am and I’d wind up pushing myself too hard. I also used to run as part of training for soccer and softball, but now, I just want to run for the fun of it.

That’s cool that you make most of the bread y’all it. I would love to do that myself since there are few breads I can eat, but I’m really only good at making banana bread.

Thanks for sharing your non-bookish hobbies. Hope you enjoy the weekend.

  2. I love this post… and I love that you mentioned Farmville!! LOL! I played the crap out of that game. Now I am playing candy crush and am stuck so I quit. I tried running this year and it just hurt the heck out of my knee. Guess I am old now. LOL!!!

    • Running is really hard on the knees. I do worry that I’m going to end up needing a knee replacement or something. I play Candy Crush, too. Farmville has so many farms now! It could be a full-time job just to play it, especially when you plant those shorter crops. For a while they had some that were like 8 minutes from planting to harvest. Mine always withered because I would forget to go back and harvest them. Now they’ve changed them to 2 hours, which is still really short. I like the ones I can plant at night and then harvest in the morning, or plant before I leave for work and they’re ready when I get home.

  3. Just had to stop by and say ‘hello’ to a fellow Cardinal fan! It is also a family tradition for us.

  4. Another runner! I wish I could run. I run like 20 feet and feel like I’m dying 🙁
I like to bake because I like to eat the sweets, haha…but cooking is so not my forte. Thankfully my fiancé is good at it and enjoys doing it!
OMG Farmville! I used to be majorly obsessed with that game, then they started adding too many extra things and it just wasn’t fun anymore, it was too much of a chore!

    • It just takes practice, that’s all. 🙂

Oh, yes, Farmville has SO much to do now. There are like 8 extra farms and they add a new one every couple of months. Then you can “complete” a farm by doing certain things like mastering all the crops and upgrading your crafting shop and I can’t get any of them done. It’s still fun, but it takes up a little more time than I’d like.
