Life of a Blogger

This week’s topic:

I don’t really remember thinking about a future career when I was a kid. I never had a strong desire to be anything specific. My parents are both teachers (mom: third grade; dad: high school history) and would have liked for me to follow in their footsteps, but I knew I didn’t want to be a teacher.

When I was 14, I started waitressing in my uncle’s diner. I worked there for a couple of years until I got a different job, but I still helped out off and on through high school until I went away to college. While in college I had other jobs — I worked at the front desk in my dorm and at a toy store — but I ended up going back to waitressing.

I majored in finance and after college I got a job as a loan officer in a bank. After a few years there, my husband and I decided to pay off our student loans as quickly as we could, so I took on a second job at night and weekends. I was an assistant manager at a restaurant. By that time, I had realized that the restaurant industry was where I wanted to be. I eventually quit the bank and started full-time at the restaurant. This past fall, I officially became the general manager. I love it, despite the odd hours. My dream is to open my own a restaurant instead of managing someone else’s.

  1. That’s pretty cool. I hope you get to live your dream some day soon! Working for yourself is definitely the way to go 🙂

    Thanks for participating!
