Weekly Rewind: September 08-14

The Weekly Rewind is my version of The Sunday Post hosted by Kimba at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Remember last week when I talked about my planting? On Monday I discovered that I had sprouts already! I think it’s because it was sooo hot, because they were supposed to take 7-14 days to start sprouting, and they took about 4. I’m thinking it’s a good thing because I was late getting them in. I even discovered this Smart Gardener site and, while I’m still figuring it out, I think it’s telling me that I am TOO LATE on planting my peas.

I’m going to try not to make this section about my gardening every week, but it’s just so exciting to see them growing, especially at first.

I didn’t post a lot this week because I was busy following the case of a missing girl, seven year old Willow Long. I follow a lot of missing persons cases when I have the time, but this one hit me hard, especially after poor Willow’s body was found on Monday night and her uncle was charged with her murder.

On Saturday I posted my Fall 2013 TV viewing schedule.

And this was super exciting for me: I won a giveaway, my very first one! (I don’t enter too many, so I never expected to win anything at all, ever.) It was the Comic-Con Giveaway hosted by Katie at The Polished Page Turner. (Read about her Comic-Con experience.) I received ARCs of The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black, Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins, Control by Lydia Kang, Unbreakable by Kami Garcia, and The Eye of Minds by James Dashner. Plus 2 bookmarks, a Maze Runner movie postcard-type thing and a T-shirt!

Tanya posted a Master List of Book Blogging Memes on Wednesday. I have this bookmarked because I’m always on the lookout for new memes. Sometimes I don’t want to participate myself but I like to see what others have posted.

The Fiction Conniption experimented with speed reading. I’ve never tested my reading speed, but I think I read pretty fast. I talked a little about that in one of my 15 Day Challenge posts back in July. Basically, I don’t read sentence by sentence. I read entire paragraphs and pages at a time. That’s why I like short paragraphs. If there’s a wall of text, I have to break it down into individual sentences and it takes me longer to read.

Guiltless Reading featured some bookish fashion accessories.

Cornucopia of Reviews and The Hiding Spot are holding a Fall Festival. (I wonder if there will be apple cider.)

  1. I hope the Coldest Girl in Coldtown is good and so sad about Willow. Hope this week is a good one for you, and watch out for rabbits in that garden!

    • You know, we had a lot of rabbits around, but they seemed to disappear a few weeks ago. I hadn’t even realized it until just now. I wonder where they all went. I do container gardening, so most of them are too tall for the rabbits to get into. My lettuce and spinach are in shallow containers that the rabbits could get into, so I have them sitting on a bench.
