Weekly Rewind: August 18-24, 2013

weeklyrewind

I’m borrowing this idea from Asti at A Bookish Heart. Each week I’ll be posting a little about my week, recaping my weekly blog postings, and linking some of the posts I read in the book blogging community.

It’s super triple coupons week at my grocery store. It seems like it’s been a long time since the last triple coupon week, but I think I missed the last one so that was my own fault. This week I was able to score four containers of premium Blue Bunny ice cream for $1.35 each, thanks to a sale and the coupons I’ve been hoarding away. I like to make my own ice cream but I couldn’t pass up that price.

My beloved St. Louis Cardinals won 6 out of 7 games this week but continue to be plagued with injuries. Two more pitchers down this week alone. Come on, guys! You know I hate the wildcard slot. (But I’d hate missing the post-season even more, so if all you can manage is the wildcard, I will take that.) I am currently coveting this canvas print (look to the right) they gave away Friday night. I will be stalking it on ebay for the next few weeks.

The weather has been cool here for about a month — very fall-like — but has suddenly turned hot again. Just in time for delicious, inexpensive ice cream.

Movies: I watched (and loved) Warm Bodies. I’m hard to please when it comes to movies, so when I find one I like, I’m happy.

On Sunday, I officially moved into my new self-hosted WordPress blog! I’ve spent the week making tweaks, installing additional plugins, changing my blog address on various sites, and just enjoying the new place. I didn’t mind Blogger but I really like WordPress. I can do so much more with it.

I’m light on the reviews this week but at least I finally got around to writing some on Thursday. I’ll have at least two of those posted next week, possibly three. This week’s review is for Hallowed by Cynthia Hand. It’s the second book in the Unearthly series. I always try to stay away from spoilers for the book I’m reviewing (sometimes it’s so hard!), but beware Unearthly spoilers if you haven’t read the first book.

Most of my other posts were ARC August and Bout of Books updates, along with my Top Ten Things That Make My Life As A Reader/Book Blogger Easier and a Rachel Caine selection for my Waiting on Wednesday post.

Books I acquired this week: I somehow refrained from spending any money on books this week, but I got Dead Girls Don’t Lie by Jennifer Shaw Wolf (ARC).

I had a bunch of links saved but then I had a bit of a Firefox bookmark problem and they got lost, and now I don’t feel well so I’m not going to try to reconstruct my list. I do remember that my favorite post this week was Jasmine’s Are We Screwed If YA Books Were Real?
